Ok, so it’s not every day that I receive an email from a rap artist, local shop and tradespeople yes, but rappers… no, this was the first time. But what does a music artist website look like? What does 2j aka Squinty want to achieve by launching a website? First, a means by which to promote who he is, and what he does, fans can listen to, and download his music, and get in touch with him. Second, an online store selling his branded merchandise.
James Joyce, better known as 2j aka Squinty, is a rap and hip-hop artist from Castlerea, Co. Roscommon. Find him all over the web…

“I am delighted with my website. FutureProof Digital created exactly what I wanted after asking only a few questions. The experience was very professional, effortless and enjoyable. Highly recommended.”
I don't design my own fonts, I leave that to the experts, but having said that I do like websites that employ the use of custom fonts. Each music artist is unique, so each music artist website should be unique, this is achieved in part by the use of custom fonts. At FutureProof we have a number of licences and subscriptions to creative directories, including Envato Elements. From here I downloaded 2 fonts, including this one, Bembies - Graffiti Font. It works perfectly.
2j, like most musicians these days, has his music on Spotify, but we though that a cool visual feature would be a cool feature to have a CD come out of it's case as you scroll down an album page. I designed to cover and the disk itself in Adobe Photoshop, and used Elementor to move the images files around the page. Check out this page using the link below...
I don't use themes or templates on any of my websites, it might take a little longer in some instances, but it's important to me that each website I produce is unique, not just different information dropped into the same format. For this Music Artist Website I set no constraints, I wanted to build a truly striking design. The page headers are a prime example, I'm sure that there is nothing else quite like this out there on the web.
Once the images, in this case 2 logos, are ready they are uploaded to Printful and placed on all the products the client has decided to sell. Printful stock hundreds of products, but we limited the range to what you would normally find in the merch store of an Music Artist Website; T-shirts, hoodies, jackets etc. For more on dropshipping, take a look at the project below...
One of the reason I use Printful for projects like this one is it's ease of use, especially for the client, when my work is complete. There is, in fact, very little to do on the website side, once the design is complete, a few settings, and Printful syncs the product with the WordPress website. The image you see here is called a mock-up, it's what the product will look like when it is ordered and printed. These are also the images that are displayed on the website.
You could say the most important aspects of an E-Commerce website are the technical aspects, shipping, but most importantly payments. There are so many options out there, but for a music artist website, PayPal is the best option. To start with anyway, sales volumes will be relatively low, so the set up and maintenance of PayPal is quick and easy. Most of the customers will be relatively young, they will be comfortable using PayPal.
If you’re a small business owner, then you know that having a website is essential in today’s world. Not only does it give your customers another way to find out about your business, but it also allows you to reach a larger audience than you would be able to if you were only relying on word-of-mouth advertising. For a number of years now (and this is only set to continue) two words have come to the forefront of website design; speed and responsiveness. The time it takes for your website to load, especially on mobile because Google measures this first, is vitally important. The search engines measure this time and it influences your website’s rankings. Keeping your customers waiting is bad for business, and not just in your store.
Creating a website that responds to the device it’s being viewed on used to be an optional extra, something that was nice to have but not essential. However, with more and more people using their phones and tablets to access the internet, having a responsive website has become a must. Responsive websites automatically adjust their layout and design depending on the size of the screen they are being displayed on, making them perfect for all devices.
If you want your business to stay ahead of the curve, then you need to make sure your website is responsive. At FutureProof Digital we can help you create a website that looks great no matter what device it’s being viewed on.
As of this year WordPress powers 43.3% of all websites on the internet, and 300 of the top 1000 sites. But that’s not why we use it, we use it because of you. WordPress web design is faster and better than any other platform; Wix, SquareSpace or Shopify are not in the same bracket. Faster means efficiency and value for money. Every client asks, “can I easily update the website myself ?” and the answer, most of the time is YES !! Some websites require a little training but in most cases a WordPress website is as easy to run as a Facebook page.
We are based in Roscommon, so naturally much of our work is here, and we are really proud of that. We like to meet clients in person or visit their business. This personal contact gives your site the design edge it needs. We get a real feel for the needs of the business before we begin.
We also complete contracts at a national and international level. We work with charities, The Irish heart Foundation for example, leading politicians and parties, as well global tour providers. We have fun with every one of our clients, on every website, large or small.
FutureProof Digital takes care of every aspect of the web design process; starting with your domain name. We set everything up, including your SSL security cert. This is included as part of every contract for the first year at no extra cost.
The same goes for web hosting. We set everything up for you, and provide a free year of hosting with every website. At the end of year 1 we transfer your site to your dedicated hosting plan free of charge, just a few clicks.
A large part of building this Music Artist Website was the E-Commerce store. The client wants to make music, not run a website, so as much as possible would need to be automated; dropshipping is the perfect option, and I use Printful for this.

Printful works like this; first design your products by uploading your designs (2j had 2 logos that needed a little work before they could be used, perfect). Next, install WooCommerce and the Printful software on the website so that your store and your Printful account sync up. Lastly, all the steps that would normally be needed for an E-Commerce website; price, payments, shipping etc. In short, once the setup is complete, you don’t need to do anything else. The website sells the products, Printful produces and delivers direct to the customer.
